Why a roadside stand?
For those of you that know me you'll agree that I am a work-a-holic. When I got back from Florida in 2009 I started working 4 jobs as well as promoting The Honey Jar and keeping bees. Needless to say I was very busy. And I felt bad when our loyal customers drove all the way out to our little slice of heaven only to find no one home. I knew something needed to be done.
I remembered visiting a self-serve honey stand in Florida. I spent a couple of late nights researching roadside stands and self-serve stands. We thought about making something custom and cutsie stand but the costs were prohibitive. Fiinally we stumbled upon a rubbermaid cabinet that would work and fit the budget.

How does your self-serve stand work?
Its actaully really simple. We stock the honey every morning. With the self serve
stand people can stop by on their way to work at 6 in the morning or on the way home from a party at Midnight. It doesn't really matter because the porch light it always on and people are welcome to stop by anytime.
Just 3 easy steps:
- Select the itmes you want.
- Total up the purchase (prices are on the item and include sales tax)
- Pay in cash, check, or by credit card over the phone.
Checks can be made out to: The Honey Jar or there is sufficient cash in a "change jar" to accomodate smaller purchases.
What items do we stock in the stand?
We stock Honey Sticks, Clover Honey in 2.25 oz sampler jars, half pints, pints, quarts, and gallons.
We worried about the potential for theft but after 3 years we've never had any money or honey come up missing. It has been a testament to the honesty and integrity of people. A social experiment that is restoring our faith in humanity.
We hope you enjoy using our stand as much as we enjoy having it available for you.
Best Wishes,
Kyle Kanno
